Abstract
Over the years, NIST has been very active in adhesion research. Although there has never been an organizational group or large-scale program that focused specifically on this topic, a wide variety of projects have had adhesion, or related properties, as a major component. These projects involve many different groups across NIST and span applications ranging from biological systems to building and construction materials. Although the research areas are highly diverse, the focus is frequently on the generation of test methods and standards particularly as applied to new and advanced materials. Space does not permit a comprehensive discussion of adhesion-related research at NIST, but the article briefly discusses some typical programs to provide a general picture of the activities at NIST.Citation
