Abstract
A combination of a three-dimensional hydration model and finite element analysis is used to simulate the microstructural behavior of cement paste during freezing. Results illustrate the significant effects of water/cement ratio and degree of hydration. They also show the behavior surrounding an included aggregate particle. These observations are similar to results obtained in deformation mapping experiments, illustrating the validity and applicability of both the computer models and the deformation mapping technique.Citation
