The New DOE Dishwasher Test Procedure: Development and First Results

Abstract
This paper summarizes the main changes to the test procedure for residential dishwashers and, Department of Energy s (DOE, Department) and industry s collaborative efforts to develop the data supporting those changes. It also quantifies energy consumption impacts of the newly adopted test procedure through tests of two soil-sensing dishwashers. The test procedure outlined here is a model for future DOE and industry efforts. The test results presented were an important step in validating and demonstrating the DOE test procedure as a means to obtain efficiency factors that consumers can rely on for making purchase decisions.
