Abstract
The accuracy of particle image velocimetry measurements in polydisperse sprays is investigated using simulations. The objective of the study is to determine if using droplets with a wide size distribution for the seed particles in PIV measurements biases the mean velocity obtained from the cross correlation of the image pairs. It is shown that polydispersity of the droplet sizes has an effect on the measured velocity field. The mean velocity obtained from cross correlation of image pairs is compared with that obtained by weighting the velocities by the droplet size.Conference Dates
