Oersted Field Induced Magnetization Scissoring In Permalloy Bars

Abstract

We have systematically studied the magnetization behavior induced by the applied current in the permalloy (Ni81Fe19) bars using second and third harmonic analysis. Three types of sample were studied with layer structures of Al30/NiFe10, NiFe5/Al30/NiFe5 and NiFe10 (in nm), respectively. We show that magnetization scissoring between the top and bottom regions of the bar is induced by the Oersted field inside the single layer permalloy bar. Measurements of the single layer permalloy bars with different dimensions show that the magnetization scissoring is strongest for the bars with low aspect ratio (width/thickness).
