Broad Spectrum Capabilities for CW Laser Power Measurements at NIST

Abstract

Recent improvements for mid-level laser power measurements (1 μW to 1 W) have increased the range of calibrations available to customers of our CW laser power measurements. In this presentation we present an overview of our capabilities as well as recent results for calibration of laser power meters. Tunable Dye and Titanium:Sapphire lasers have greatly expanded the range of available wavelengths. Wavelengths from 500 nm to 1000 nm are available up to 1 W CW, with measurement uncertainties better than 1 %. A new fiber transport has enabled use of this capability to extend to the Optical Fiber Power Measurements (OFPM) Service as well. Delivery of NIR wavelengths has enabled increased flexibility for OFPM calibrations. NIR Wavelengths from 700 nm to 1000 nm, and select visible wavelengths are available for the OFPM calibrations. The fiber transport is also being characterized for stability to enable delivery to the Laser Optimized Cryogenic Radiometer (LOCR) for increased flexibility in the wavelengths available for that service.
