Abstract
The correlation coefficient is a common metric for assessing the performance of an antenna for a multiple-input, multiple-out wireless device. In this paper, the effect of loading a reverberation chamber on the calculation of the correlation coefficient is explored. The changes in correlation coefficient with loading are compared to the changes in a squared, mismatchcorrected version of the transmission coefficient jSxyj2®. Two types of antennas, each having two parallel monopoles on a ground plane, were placed at various positions in the reverberation chamber. The correlation coefficient and corresponding coefficient of variance were not significantly different for the unloaded versus loaded measurements as compared to the S parameter metric. These results indicate that the correlation coefficient may be calculated in a loaded chamber, although this metric would not be useful for characterizing the spatial uniformity of the chamber.
