Abstract
Manufacturers require timely and precise information about available manufacturing services to assemble optimal supply chains. Currently, multiple communities develop and use proprietary, ad-hoc manufacturing service models to share information about manufacturing services in support of sourcing processes. These models, however, do not allow access to reliable and precise manufacturing services information within or across the communities. This paper discusses requirements of manufacturing service models to support contract manufacturing sourcing processes via running examples. We propose two alternative semantic mediation approaches based on formal models that allow seamless and interoperable access with higher precision of and greater access to manufacturing services information in the multi-stakeholder environments. We then demonstrate through the running examples that these approaches support this target agile behavior of proprietary manufacturing service models. Finally, a comparative discussion and summary of the two semantic mediation approaches are provided.
