This article summarizes the process that the National Institute of Standards and Technology Research Library followed to gauge customer preference for Kindle book reading devices and content. Features of the Kindle book devices that were used are summarized and the devices compared. The creation of focus groups to provide input on the Kindle book devices is discussed. The focus group observations on both the Kindle book devices and content are presented. It was found that the focus group participants overwhelmingly preferred the Kindle DX as a Kindle book device and preferred professional PDFs, scientific books and textbooks, and newspapers as content.
