Abstract
Small-angle neutron scattering with contrast variation can offer a window into the structure and disposition of two or more chemically distinct components within a complex. The SASSIE Contrast Calculator is a new software tool designed to assit in planning for SANS experiments with contrast variation on protein and nucleic acid complexes. Based on the primary sequences and deuteration levels of each protein or nucleic acid component, the Contrast Calculator calculates and plots I(0), contrast and scattering length densities. Since SANS experiments often complement SAXS studies, the program provides both neutron and x-ray parameters. It is run as an integrated component of SASSIE, a software suite for atomistic modeling ensembles of molecular structures consistent with scattering data.
