NCWM Distinguished Service Award

This award recognizes members that have made a long-term commitment of service and leadership to NCWM, and made significant contributions to the enhancement of the organization as a whole through committee service, important contributions to standards development, served as a resource for knowledge, promoted the vision for NCWM, or other long-term commitments that have advanced the mission of NCWM.

More Information

David Sefcik, the recipient of the NCWM Distinguished Service Award is the National Legal Metrology Program Leader at the NIST Office of Weights and Measures. The award reads as follows:

David came to NIST from the private sector, having left Giant Food for his new career in public service. His experience in both the private and public sectors has given him a valuable perspective and enabled him to thoughtfully balance the interests of industry, consumers, and regulatory officials. His expertise in packaged goods regulations has made him a resource throughout the NCWM standards development process. Perhaps more importantly, he has provided terrific training to officials across the nation on checking the net contents of packaged goods and packaging and labeling requirements. The knowledge he has shared has strengthened inspection programs, improved enforcement consistency, and enhanced consumer protection across the country.

He has also served as an important liaison between NCWM and federal agencies, including the Federal Trade Commission, the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Transportation, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. His ability to build productive relationships across agencies has helped advance the Council's work and the broader legal metrology community. While his technical expertise is widely respected, it is his commitment to helping others succeed that has had perhaps the greatest impact. Through his leadership, mentorship, and dedication to education, he has strengthened both our organization and the profession as a whole.
