Amanda Lorman (Fed)

Deputy Director of Congressional and Legislative Affairs

Amanda Lorman is NIST’s Deputy Director of Congressional and Legislative Affairs where she advises on legislative strategy and congressional engagement to strengthen relationships with Congress and key stakeholders. 

Prior to joining NIST, Amanda held a series of senior leadership positions at the U.S. Department of State. She directed congressional affairs and strategic communications for multi-billion-dollar foreign assistance programs, advised senior Department leadership on legislative strategy, and served in acting executive leadership roles overseeing congressional engagement. Amanda has also served as a Director of Legislative Affairs for the National Security Council and served in a Congressional advisory role with NOAA’s National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Services (NESDIS) division. 

Amanda has close to 20 years of policy and legislative experience and is recognized for translating complex technical and policy issues into clear strategic priorities, building bipartisan partnerships, and leading organizations through complex legislative and policy environments. Her leadership has contributed to the successful implementation of major federal initiatives and earned multiple Superior Honor Awards from the U.S. Department of State. 

Amanda began her career as a Presidential Management Fellow; she earned a Master of Arts in U.S. Foreign Policy and a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs from American University.
