Join us for an introduction to NIST and evening visit to one of our laboratories highlighted below. During the registration process, you will need to specify which lab you intend to visit. Given the limited capacity available each day, attendance will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
If an engineer designs an engine for a jet that doesn’t produce enough force, the jet will never leave the ground. If a building isn’t strong enough to resist the forces produced by strong winds, it may collapse in a storm. NIST's Million Pounds-Force Deadweight Machine – the largest in the world – calibrates sensors that measure extremely large forces, like the thrust of a rocket or jet engine.
The Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology is a hands-on facility where researchers can build and characterize their technologies on state-of-the-art semiconductor processing equipment, with the support of NIST’s expert staff members.
Throughout the year, NIST will host lectures, tours, and special programs on our campus and partner with local organizations across the region. We encourage you to stay connected as we celebrate 125 years of service to the American public by visiting the dedicated NIST 125th anniversary webpage
