NIST OWM Info Hour: Portable Digital Density Meters used for the Commercial Inspection of Packaged Liquid Foodstuffs and Beverages
In 2025, NIST OWM provided an Info Hour to review comparison data of portable digital density meters (PDDM) to NIST HB 133 test procedures for determining the density of homogeneous liquid food products for liquid package inspections. The results showed that PDDMs provided similar results to NIST HB 133 results and that PDDMS can be used for commercial inspection of homogeneous packaged liquid foodstuffs and beverages. This 2026 Info Hour provides a review of the NIST Special Publication SP2200 for PDDMs, and guidance on the use of PDDMs in commercial liquid package inspections.
