We are pleased to announce a hackathon to build bridges for better self-driving laboratory software. A growing number of groups are developing open-source software for autonomous materials laboratories. Given the emerging nature of this field, many of these packages will likely have to solve similar problems, but solutions to those problems will be sparsely distributed across the various packages. We are organizing this hackathon to help identify where these packages overlap and where we can establish new collaborative efforts. Greater collaboration is likely to reduce overall software development and maintenance costs/time and make the underlying scientific algorithms more broadly available. We will host a 2-day in-person workshop. The agenda will mostly be reserved for collaborative software prototyping activities, so be ready to code!

  • (Day 1, AM) Facilitated group discussion:
    • Lightning talks
    • Identify overlaps and gaps in the current software solutions
    • Identify detailed technical opportunities for collaboration
  • (Day 1, PM) Split into groups and begin hacking on new technical bridges
  • (Day 2, AM) Continue hacking on new technical bridges
  • (Day 2, PM) Present progress and plans for future work
