Detailed design principles and calculations based on a generic firebrand generator with configuration commensurate with the NIST Firebrand Generators are provided. The generator is treated as a fluidized-bed reactor operating at the vertical dilute-phase pneumatic transport regime. To provide technical soundness of the design principle, calculations are checked against the operational parameters of one of the NIST Firebrand Generators and the ISO Standard Firebrand Generator. The calculated designed parameters, blower power requirement and burner heat release rate, are within the operating parameter envelopes of these two generators.
