Environmental Measurement Workshop

Environmental Measurements Workshop
Credit: Crissy Robinson

National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) works to advance measurement science and is organizing a workshop to learn more about current limitations in making measurements of the environment, including terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, agriculture, and managed and urban areas. NIST is hosting a gaps analysis workshop to foster a community dialogue on needs related to sensors, measurement methods, and standards for ecosystem measurement. The goals of this workshop include:

  • Identification of specific measurement needs in local, national, and international efforts to quantify ecosystems.
  • Development of a clear path for NIST to support ecological measurement needs for improved human wellbeing, economic security, and ecosystem health.
  • Establishment of a community forum for ongoing discussion between NIST and the Earth & environmental science communities.
