Nathaniel Hurley (Assoc)

As an associate of the Particles, Tubes, and Colloids project at NIST we are working on the extraction and purification of single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). Specifically, we use DNA modulated PEG/Salt aqueous two-phase (ATP) systems to extract single chirality SWCNTs. These high purty DNA-SWCNTs have a large fluorescence response in the presence of serotonin, cholesterol, and dopamine including solvatochromic shifts and changes in intensity. This makes DNA-SWCNTs ideal optical reporters for in-situ imaging and sensing. Additionally metallic SWCNTs are useful in electronics for single molecule sensing.
