2023 Bronze Medal Award

AWARD CITATION

The group is recognized for performing extremely careful measurements of two-photon absorption by molecules using entangled photon pairs. They strongly refuted published claims of revolutionary measurement capabilities when using quantum-mechanically entangled photon pairs. By publishing their results and documenting their techniques, the NIST team was able to save other government agencies millions of dollars that would otherwise have gone to grant recipients to build entangled-photon-pair microscopes based on fundamentally flawed designs.
