2023 Bronze Medal Award

AWARD CITATION

The group is recognized for discovering a new material phenomenon and developing a new control technique to significantly improve the service lifetime of 3D-printed titanium.  This elegant and low-cost technique has enabled industry to, for the first time, manufacture parts from this material for critical medical device applications, such as hip replacement implants.  This NIST advancement will lengthen the lifetime of critical implants and make them less prone to failure.
