NIST Requests Public Comments on FIPS 202, "SHA-3 Standard," and SP 800-185, "SHA-3 Derived Functions"
Initial public comments are requested on FIPS 202, SHA-3 Standard, and SP 800-185, SHA-3 Derived Functions. The public comment period is open through October 27, 2023.
NIST is in the process of a periodic review and maintenance of its cryptography standards and guidelines.
Currently, we are requesting public comments on the following publications:
- Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 202, SHA-3 Standard: Permutation-Based Hash and Extendable-Output Functions, 2015, and
- NIST Special Publication (SP) 800-185, SHA-3 Derived Functions: cSHAKE, KMAC, TupleHash, and ParallelHash, 2016.
NIST requests feedback on all aspects of these publications, including the security and usefulness of the specified functions and their various parameterizations.
The public comment period is open through October 27, 2023. Send comments to cryptopubreviewboard [at] nist.gov (subject: Comments%20on%20FIPS%20202%20%2F%20SP%20800-185) (cryptopubreviewboard[at]nist[dot]gov) with “Comments on FIPS 202" or “Comments on SP 800-185” in the subject.
Comments received in response to this request will be posted on the Crypto Publication Review Project site after the due date.
