Abstract
Standards and conformity assessment are important to strengthening the science and quality of forensic science. Standards provide a foundation for consistency between processes related to testing, accreditation, management systems, and personnel certification. This Chapter provides an overview of U.S. and international documentary standards and conformity assessment concepts as they relate to forensic science service providers (FSSPs) and discusses the current state of standards development and associated challenges for implementation.
