NIST International Outreach Strengthened through Additional Translations and Engagement

By: Amy Mahn

With the update to the Cybersecurity Framework in full swing, NIST continues to prioritize international engagement through conversations and collaborations on cybersecurity. This work is critical to NIST’s efforts to ensure international alignment on cybersecurity and privacy resources.  Here’s a quick summary of some recent engagements, with more to come in the next few weeks!

  • Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and NIST Director  Laurie Locascio participated virtually in the G7 Digital Ministers meeting on May 10th alongside the State Department.  She spoke about current NIST cybersecurity efforts, including the update of the Cybersecurity Framework, and the importance of standards and public-private partnership on cybersecurity.  She affirmed our commitment to G7 partners to cooperate on digital issues. The Ministers issued a declaration that outlines commitments in several areas, including standardization.  NIST will continue to work with the State Department to support U.S. government engagement in the G7.
  • NIST is actively involved in the U.S.-European Union Trade and Technology Council (TTC) on a number of topics, including standards and artificial intelligence.  NIST participated in a recent ministerial meeting in May and shared expertise in these areas.  More information on this event can be found in this White House Fact Sheet
  • NIST recently traveled to South America as part of a cybersecurity trade mission hosted by the International Trade Administration (ITA) in April 2022.  The trip included stops in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Santiago, Chile; Montevideo, Uruguay; and Lima, Peru.  On the mission, NIST met with government and industry stakeholders in these cities to share information on NIST’s cybersecurity and privacy works and areas of shared priorities, including the Spanish translations of NIST cybersecurity resources.  NIST looks forward to continued collaboration with ITA and the State Department on follow up from meetings that took place on this visit.
  • NIST has hosted several international guests at the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE), including government delegations visiting from Mexico, Brazil, and Singapore.  These visits included substantive conversations with NIST experts as well as first-hand visits to tour the exciting work taking place in the NCCoE labs.  NIST has continued virtual interaction with international stakeholders as well, including a recent meeting with Thailand.

As part of international engagement, NIST continues to add to the growing collection found on our International Cybersecurity and Privacy Resources page.  Recent new additions include:

Additional translations will continue to be posted on the International Cybersecurity and Privacy Resources page.
