Nehika Mathur (Fed)

Industrial Engineer

Dr. Nehika Mathur is a researcher with the Information Modeling and Testing Group in the Systems Integration Division at NIST. Here, she leverages her expertise in sustainable manufacturing to develop standards to enable manufacturers implement the principles of Circular Economy (CE) at using a product life cycle perspective. Nehika currently serves as a technical expert with the ISO TC 323 on CE standards.

Dr. Mathur has a background in mechanical engineering and spent the early part of her career implementing Design for Environment (DfE) in the automotive and switchgear industries. Subsequently, while working for the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) she was confronted by the challenges facing small and medium enterprises in the implementation of sustainable manufacturing practices, thus prompting her to pursue a PhD. At Purdue University, Nehika’s doctoral research explored the notion of industrial symbiosis in the context of promoting a circular materials economy by closing loops to mitigate environmental impacts and strengthen supply chains for electronics and clean energy technologies. She is well-versed in industrial ecology methods such as Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Materials Flow Analysis (MFA), besides also Social Network Analysis (SNA), multi objective optimization techniques and system dynamics. Nehika’s work is published in high impact journals such as the Journal of Cleaner Production (IF: 9.297) and Resources, Conservation and Recycling (IF: 10.204).
