Abstract
It is challenging to represent a complete machining tool system including geometric and kinematics information to support different decisions including purchasing, scheduling, and routing. A model of a fully assembled machining system in a neutral format such as STEP can help overcome this problem. Standard-based machine tool models will not only facilitate information reuse, but also enable model interoperability. In this paper, a case study is discussed to demonstrate a standard representation of a machining system including both component geometric and kinematics information. This standard-based machine system model can be imported to all CAx tools.
