Abstract
Imagine the possibilities of using an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) to carry a wireless broadband communications network to support a public safety mission. Learn about PSCRs Deployables research and how UASs are being evaluated as tools to assist first responders communicate in areas where cellular infrastructure doesn't exist or is otherwise unavailable. We discuss results from a 2019 survey which asked first responders how they might use a drone in their operation, while carrying a broadband network device, as well as results from a recent market research identifying current drones capabilities. Learn how these research elements shaped a UAS prize challenge, or competition, where contestants will design, build and fly a UAS prototype with the intention of influencing drone designs to support first responder missions.
