Abstract
Experiments were conducted using mock-ups of full-scale roofing assemblies to determine if any insight into firebrand generation from real-scale structures as well as actual urban and wildland-urban interface (WUI) fires was possible using simpler laboratory methodologies. Firebrands generated in the current work were collected and compared with those collected from previous experiments that made use of full-scale roofing assemblies constructed of common building materials as well as firebrand data collected from actual urban and WUI fires. The wind influence on firebrand production using the developed experimental method using mock-ups of full-scale roofing assemblies was investigated. Results of this study are presented towards the ultimate goal of using smaller-scale, mock-up experiments to evaluate a given building material's propensity to generate firebrands.Proceedings Title
