Leedy Receives Uriano Award For Helping ATP Succeed

Thomas F. Leedy, a resident of CLARKSBURG, Md., and recently retired from the National Institute of Standards and Technology, has been presented the George A. Uriano Award by the agency. Named for the first director of NIST’s Advanced Technology Program, the award recognizes outstanding achievements by NIST staff in building or strengthening the extramural programs. The Uriano Award was first given in 1996.

As a project manager in the ATP, Leedy established a systematic approach to all aspects of project and program management. He built a very successful focused program in Digital Data Storage, which is helping cost-share with the private sector the early-stage development of high-risk, innovative and enabling storage technologies that promise to "leap-frog" the U.S. storage industry ahead of its competitors. In addition to his managerial achievements, Leedy mentored new ATP project managers.

An agency of the Commerce Department's Technology Administration, NIST promotes economic growth by working with industry to develop and apply technology, measurements and standards.
