Abstract
The fabrication and properties of three-dimensionally structured CdS/CdTe solar cells with back-contacts are described. Fabrication entails electrodeposition of CdS at submicrometer length scales on one of two metal electrodes interdigitated in a comb structure followed by CdTe electrodeposition over both the CdS coated and bare electrodes through impingement of the deposits on the two electrodes to form a junction and create an active device. The performance of fabricated devices is described. The processes and structures are amenable to a broad array of materials and deposition techniques for fabrication and study of 3-D structured photovoltaic devices.
