Abstract

Polymeric nanocomposites containing silver are known to exhibit antibacterial activity. Here we demonstrate the synthesis and characterization of dimethacrylate/silver nanocomposites by coupling photopolymerization with in situ silver ion reduction. An amine bearing methacrylate was introduced to improve the solubility of silver salt in the resin mixture. The silver nanoparticle size and dispersion, as well as its effect on biofilm colonization, were evaluated.
