Ms. Hughes is recognized for her extraordinary efforts in developing effective, efficient, and engaging e-learning materials related to occupational safety and health (OSH). This fundamental shift to more appealing training for NIST staff has resulted in an improved attitude towards OSH training in general. With a new "value-added" perception of OSH training, NIST staff have a greater potential to learn and apply the new knowledge while on the job, better long-term retention of the information, and a stronger penchant to complete future OSH training. Providing successful OSH training is critical to reducing the risk associated with physical and health hazards that NIST staff members may potentially be exposed to as they conduct their official duties.
