Summary

The Antenna Metrology Project works with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Department of Defense (DOD), the Department of Energy (DOE) and other federal entities on antenna testing and free-field measurements.

Description

Recent projects include:

Developing uncertainty analyses for an outdoor near-field antenna test range
We are analyzing near-field scanning data from the U.S. Army’s Electronic Proving Grounds (EPG) and will then provide technical support to the Army for any necessary corrections to the range’s uncertainty budget. The EPG has some of the largest outdoor antenna ranges in the world. It is unique in its application of outdoor near-field antenna measurements to vehicles, both military and commercial.

Millimeter-wave material and scattering measurements
Our millimeter-wave scattering system can be used for various free-field tests of materials. The scattering system has been used to test the effective dielectric constant, reflectivity, and microwave surface roughness effects from 100-500 GHz. Initially funded as a DHS science and technology imaging initiative, the scattering system has been applied to low reflectance material testing for the DHS Explosives Laboratory, the Federal Aviation Administration’s Transportation Security Laboratory, and others.
