Mr. Lucon and Mr. Santoyo are recognized for designing, building, and validating a digital system for customers to verify the operation of their Charpy impact test machines to standard values in accordance with ASTM and ISO standards. All major uses of structural steel require this Charpy testing on a verified machine. This digital system eliminates the need for customers to ship tested specimens back to NIST for machine verification and allows customers worldwide to verify their machines to NIST standards remotely and typically within a few hours of testing.
