2020 Bronze Medal Award

AWARD CITATION

Mr. Funk and Mr. Chiang are honored for their efforts in developing a mobile device recycling program for NIST. The mobile device recycling program establishes a formal technology refresh practice by deploying the latest mobile technology through the Department of Commerce Mobile BPA (Bulk Purchase Agreement). Older mobile phones are collected and recycled, a credit is issued, and the credit is applied to the purchase of new phones. The mobile device recycling program has saved NIST $275K in device purchase costs this past year and has positioned NIST to enjoy similar savings in future years.
