The group is recognized for transforming NIST’s infrastructure for computing in the era of data-intensive science. They developed a powerful new computer and networking architecture optimized for machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) and acquired and deployed the components for NIST-wide use. This capability has enabled advances in measurement science for biology, chemistry, communications, and cybersecurity that could not otherwise be achieved. Their initiative and creativity established a new research paradigm in support of NIST’s strategic focus in AI.
