AWARD CITATION

Spielman is recognized for his pioneering work and leadership in pursuing the “second quantum revolution” by developing techniques of quantum simulation to investigate and explain natural phenomena too complex for traditional mathematical computation, such as high-temperature superconductivity. Spielman’s achievements as both a theoretical and experimental physicist in the field of atomic, molecular and optical physics have gained worldwide attention and laboratories around the world have adopted his methods.
