2018 Eugene Casson Crittenden Award

Miller

Miller

AWARD CITATION

Mr. Miller is recognized for going well beyond the traditional role of a technician in advancing temperature metrology through data analysis, research, calibrations and collaboration with industry. He made essential contributions that led FedEx to launch a new, cutting-edge product that provides near-real-time web-based monitoring of critical shipments. His work on a 20-year drift prediction for both non-thermally and thermally stabilized thermistors was used in a Cisco network system. His collection, analysis and publication of weather-station surface-temperature data collected over a six-year period importantly shows how historical thermometer uncertainty can affect the historical record for land-surface temperatures.
