Dr. Reiner is recognized for technology transfer related to measurements and standards of per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS). She accomplished this through analysis of 22 SRMs (nine as technical project leader/technical point of contact), 24 publications resulting in 231 citations, 16 presentations, and mentoring. These accomplishments brought her world-class recognition as an expert in PFAS metrology before the onset of a national crisis of PFAS in the environment and specifically drinking water. She has spent countless hours responding to this crisis, resulting in increased SRM sales and invitations to workshops on PFAS-contamination response, and helping external partners with methodology to complete their own PFAS analysis. She has also mentored students and utilized samples from NIST's Marine Environmental Specimen Bank to demonstrate temporal changes in the concentrations of PFAS in water systems.
