Dr. Gentile is recognized for advancing the imaging of complex biological systems and for accelerating innovations in material science by developing neutron-spin tools and techniques that have been widely adopted as standard practice at nearly all neutron facilities throughout the world. Prior to his work, researchers had limited techniques and were hindered by the low degree of polarization from neutron-spin filters, discarding a high fraction of the available neutrons due to unusable polarization. Within the last two years, he expanded his techniques to include uniquely shaped, reusable gas cells that have broadened the applicability of his technology and also increased the achievable polarization to a record level.
