The group is recognized for leadership in a first-time-ever cross-agency effort that incorporated NIST’s emergency funding authority to execute $3 million in initial awards, less than 31 days after Hurricane Harvey, to MEP Centers in Texas and Louisiana. This was done while completing MEP Center renewal packages and the Grants Management Division's closeout of the 2017 federal fiscal year. Two weeks later another expedited effort ensued after category-5 hurricanes Irma and Maria impacted Florida and Georgia as well as totally devastating the island of Puerto Rico. The total $6.2 million in awards provided to MEP Centers represents initial support for manufacturers that produce nearly a quarter-trillion dollars in total U. S. manufacturing GDP.
