Mr. Baltic is recognized for the development, construction, and operation of two neutron imaging facilities. His work demonstrates proficiency in fields as varied as engineering design, plumbing, vacuum technology, machining, and software development. Beyond his excellence as a technician, he is an expert in the daily operation of the complex user facilities, where experiments range from operating helium-dilution refrigeration systems to hydrogen fuel cells to lithium heat pipes. His services and expertise have been utilized across organizational boundaries within NIST and have contributed significantly to the advancement of fundamental neutron physics, neutron-scattering facilities, and neutron metrology.
