2016 Eugene Casson Crittenden Award

Mr. Lewis is recognized for providing exceptional customer service to stakeholders during the relocation of the NIST Cryogenic Flow Facility.  The flow facility is the only resource of its kind in the world, and is capable of providing NIST-traceable calibrations of liquid flow meters at temperatures below -180 °C.  Nitrogen, helium, and natural gas are all liquids below -180 °C, and custody transfer requires the use of calibrated flow meters.  Because of Mr. Lewis’ close work with stakeholders, NIST was able to provide the necessary calibrations prior to the relocation shutdown, minimizing the impact on meter manufacturing and ensuring end users’ ability to rely on calibrated meters for custody transfer.
