AWARD CITATION
Mr. Farrell is recognized for over 10 years of exemplary performance as the primary machine operator for the Synchrotron Ultraviolet Radiation Facility (SURF III) storage ring. In that period, he has contributed to developing methods that provide early alerts for potential malfunctions, and he has developed methods to repair highly sophisticated equipment normally requiring factory service and associated delays. His development of the new early-alert methods and in-house repair capabilities has resulted in a substantial drop in facility downtime because he has been able to resolve potential issues quickly, and with early alerts, before they develop into more serious (and potentially costly) problems.
