Mr. Brass is recognized for his outstanding leadership in establishing NIST’s new Hazard Review safety program. This program creates a standardized process for authorizing hazardous work and NIST staff members to perform that work based on their training and experience. Each individual hazard review identifies and assesses the physical and health hazards associated with the specified activity and the appropriate control measures required to reduce the risk of exposure to acceptable levels. This seamless integration of safety considerations into work planning and execution enables NIST to carry out its mission while protecting its most valuable assets: its people, its facilities, and its reputation.
