The latest release of the NIST 5G Open-Source Testbed Automation tool includes a new GNU Radio-based channel emulator that uses ZeroMQ to connect multiple cells and multiple UEs. Researchers can adjust signal paths with configurable attenuation and additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). A common radio profile aligns the parameters required for I/Q exchange across diverse software stacks. The emulator enables reproducible software-based 5G channel experiments without specialized radio hardware.
