CAISI to Host Listening Sessions on Barriers to AI Adoption

Listening Sessions Will Identify Barriers to AI Adoption in the Healthcare, Finance, and Education Sectors in April 2026

The Center for AI Standards and Innovation (CAISI) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) will host virtual workshops on sector-specific barriers to AI adoption.

These workshops will explore what impedes—and what enables—the adoption of AI and AI agent systems in the healthcare, finance, and education sectors. We are seeking concrete examples of both successful and unsuccessful AI implementation efforts, along with the contextual factors that made the difference. Your insights will directly inform CAISI’s work to help organizations adopt AI systems with confidence, in furtherance of America’s AI Action Plan. We especially encourage participation from sector-specific subject matter experts focused on the procurement, evaluation, and integration of AI systems.

Date: The virtual workshops will be held in April 2026.

To submit interest to participate: If your organization has relevant experience in the healthcare, finance, or education sectors and wishes to participate, please email caisi-events [at] nist.gov (caisi-events[at]nist[dot]gov) with:

  1. A subject line of “Barriers to Adoption in [Healthcare]”, “Barriers to Adoption in [Finance]”, or “Barriers to Adoption in [Education]”, depending on your sector of expertise;
  2. The name and contact information of your organization; and
  3. A submission of no more than one page describing current barriers to adoption within your organization, specifically relating to one or more common use cases.

Please note that participation is limited and NIST may be unable to accommodate all requests; however, NIST aims to obtain input from a reasonable range of domain stakeholders. Please be sure to submit interest before March 20, 2026. We will be accepting applications on a rolling basis.

The virtual workshops are accessible to people with disabilities. Individuals requiring accommodations such as real-time captioning, sign language interpretation or other ancillary aids should notify the Department at caisi-events [at] nist.gov (caisi-events[at]nist[dot]gov) at least seven (7) business days prior to the meeting. Access details for the workshops are subject to change.
