NICE Framework Adoption, Adaptation, and Extension

The National CyberWatch Center recently published a special issue of their Cybersecurity Skills Journal: Practice and Research to highlight investigating adoption, adaptations, or extensions of the Workforce Framework for Cybersecurity (NICE Framework).

This NICE Framework Special Issue examines the usefulness, benefits, and challenges associated with the adoption, adaptation, or extension of the NICE Framework in cybersecurity practice, to improve learning, and advance the state of cybersecurity capability maturity. It introduces a new form of systematic inquiry that seeks to fulfill the NICE values of challenging assumptions and simulating innovations.

A revision to the NICE Framework was published in November 2020. The updates include:

  • A streamlined set of “building blocks” comprised of Task, Knowledge, and Skill Statements
  • The introduction of Competencies as a mechanism for organizations to assess learners
  • A reference to artifacts, such as Work Roles and Task, Knowledge, and Skills statements, that will live outside of the publication to enable a more fluid update process
