PSCR Webinar: En Route to 5x5: What to Expect

This May, NIST's Public Safety Communications Research (PSCR) Division Chief Dereck Orr, the First Responder Network Authority's Chief Market Engagement Officer Jeremy Zollo, and Seattle Fire Department's Assistant Chief Chris Lombard will provide an overview of what to expect at 5x5: The Public Safety Innovation Summit. They will discuss how PSCR and the FirstNet Authority work together to serve public safety and push communications technology forward. They'll also provide a sneak peak into sessions and demos. The purpose of this reimagined summit is to bring public safety, academia, government, and industry leaders together to discuss the current state of public safety communications technology and drive advancements in research, development, and deployment. Dereck Orr is the Division Chief of the Public Safety Communications Research Division of NIST

Dereck Orr, PSCR Division Chief

Dereck Orr is the Division Chief of the Public Safety Communications Division at NIST's Communications Technology Laboratory (CTL). He has also served as the Program Manager for the Public Safety Communications Research (PSCR) program since 2002. The PSCR program acts as an objective technical advisor and laboratory to the public safety community to accelerate the adoption and implementation of the most critical public safety communication standards and technologies. Orr received a Masters in Public Policy from the College of William and Mary and a Bachelor of Arts in American History from the University of Texas at Austin.

Jeremy Zollo, First Responder Network Authority Chief Market Engagement Officer

Jeremy Zollo brings more than 25 years of experience in public safety communications and engagement to the FirstNet Authority. He is responsible for overseeing the organization’s collaboration with stakeholders across market segments including public safety, industry and academia, and federal government partners. Jeremy joined the FirstNet Authority in 2014 as the state and local outreach branch chief, overseeing the outreach efforts with the public safety community across the country in support of the development of the Request for Proposal for the nationwide public safety broadband network. Following this, he served as the deputy director of consultation focused on incorporating public safety’s inputs into the development and delivery of FirstNet State Plans, which supported opt ins from every state and territory. In 2018, he joined the newly created FirstNet Authority Enterprise Strategy Division as the Senior Director of Enterprise Strategy.

Chris Lombard, Seattle Fire Department Assistant Chief

Chris Lombard is an Assistant Chief with the Seattle (Washington) Fire Department.  He is temporarily on loan from the fire department to start up the City of Seattle’s new 911 department – one of the largest in the Pacific Northwest.  He also serves as the chair of the First Responder Network Authority's Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC) and First Vice Chair of SAFECOM. He is skilled in crisis management, emergency management, emergency services, report writing, and policy analysis. Chris is a strong media and communication professional with a Bachelor of Science (BS) focused in Geography and resource management from Oregon State University.
