Methods and Metrics for Ontology Workshop

In the recent past we have seen a proliferation of ontologies -- which will play a crucial role in the Semantic Web -- in various domains. However, there are several barriers that need to be overcome before the effective utilization of these ontologies. One such barrier is the lack of methods and metrics for evaluating ontologies – an issue well aligned with NIST's mission. A workshop entitled "Methods and Metrics for Ontology Evaluation," which brought together most of the prominent world-renowned players in the ontology field was held at NIST on October 25th and 26th.  Based on the workshop deliberations a report outlining a research plan for ontology evaluation is being prepared.
