High Tech Waste

Electronic waste is the fastest growing sector of the solid waste stream, and projections estimate an accumulation of end-of-life solar panels and electric vehicle batteries in the coming decades. These waste streams are very complex in nature and contain many valuable materials, including several critical elements.

Our aim is to identify data-related barriers in the development and deployment of materials passport and traceability tools that label and trace material components and products as they move through every point of the circular supply chain. The type of data involved includes:

  1. current and projected materials demand/usage/consumption;
  2. product weights, material/chemical composition, and form factors; and
  3. product lifespans and performance specifications.
